Excess pesticide residues detected in six food samples — part of the products destroyed

The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources reported that during the weekly food inspection, six samples of imported and local products were found to contain excessive levels of pesticides or unauthorized plant protection substances.
According to the Ministry, between 7 and 13 November, 38 samples of imported products were tested. Of these, 36 were deemed safe, while two contained excessive pesticide residues. In a batch of Gala apples belonging to Svs Tic. Ltd. Şti., pesticides were detected above the permitted limit; the product was destroyed at the company’s request. A similar decision was made regarding a batch of Deveci pears belonging to Engin Değirmenci.
Fourteen samples of local produce were also tested. Ten of them were found clean, while four contained non-recommended plant protection substances. Three types of peppers — green charliston, yellow charliston and kapia — belonging to Güzelyurt resident İsmail Dağcılar were destroyed. In the parsley grown by Gaziveren resident Mustafa Doğan Pınar, non-compliance was also detected, after which the batch was destroyed.
It is noted that the laboratory analysis results were evaluated based on the European Union's maximum pesticide residue levels table.
