In a fatal accident in Northern Cyprus, a young politician was killed
Another accident with a fatal outcome occurred in the TRNC. On the way to Ercan Airport, a young man - a member of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) - crashed.
According to the police press service, the accident occurred yesterday evening, around 18:00 on the main road from Yonca to Ercan. 25-year-old Chagry Miralay was driving his car towards the airport when a van driven by 55-year-old Mustafa Kay pulled out from a secondary road onto the main road at the 3rd kilometer of the route. As a result of the collision, the car veered off the road and crashed into trees. The young man died on the spot from the injuries he sustained.
The culprit of the accident - the van driver - has been arrested. According to preliminary information, he failed to yield to the car moving on the main road.
The police continue to investigate the incident.
It was later revealed that the deceased young man was a member of the Republican Turkish Party. The Secretary-General of CTP, Asım Akansoy, expressed his condolences for the loss of his party comrade.
"I am deeply saddened by the loss of our party member, dear comrade Chagry Miralay. He was one of the young symbols of faith in achieving lasting peace in Cyprus," wrote the CTP leader.
