Cases of foot-and-mouth disease detected in animals: mass vaccination begins
Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş announced that cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been detected in some animals in the country. According to him, all necessary measures have already been taken to prevent the spread of the disease, and more than 500,000 doses of vaccine arrived in the country last night. Vaccination will begin today, following the same principle applied during the pandemic.
The minister emphasized that foot-and-mouth disease does not pose a threat to humans but causes serious harm to animals and significant economic losses for producers. He noted that the virus is easily transmitted and spreads rapidly, which is why the authorities are acting as quickly as possible.
In the areas where the disease was recorded, necessary preventive measures and disinfection work have been carried out. Çavuş also stated that all agricultural machinery must undergo mandatory treatment, and fines are imposed for non-compliance with these requirements.
Speaking at a press conference, the minister urged citizens to remain calm and not give in to panic. According to him, reckless actions could first lead to an artificial surplus of meat on the market and later to a meat crisis.
