TRNC restricts healthcare workers' leave due to Middle East war
The Ministry of Health of Northern Cyprus has introduced temporary restrictions on leave for medical personnel amid the war between the US, Israel, and Iran.
According to a department letter dated March 2, healthcare system employees have had their leave restricted for 10 days, except in cases of extreme necessity. The measure is preventative in nature.
The Ministry of Health explained that in conditions of a possible escalation of the situation, it is important to prepare the medical system in advance and ensure a sufficient number of personnel.
It is also noted that according to the Civil Servants Law, when planning leave abroad, an application must be submitted 21 days in advance, and for leave exceeding 14 days — at least 10 days before it begins.
The law also provides that a civil servant can be recalled from leave early if their personal participation is necessary for the performance of official duties, giving testimony, or representing the institution. In such cases, any material expenses incurred by the employee must be compensated.
