First VIP Helicopter Taxi Lands in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
Fly Me Airlines has completed its first "air taxi" helicopter flight from Turkey to Northern Cyprus. The helicopter landed at Ercan Airport yesterday evening around 4:00 p.m. and was greeted with a traditional water salute.
The inaugural flight on the Antalya-Gazipaşa-Ercan route was taken by Fikri Ataoğlu, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and the Environment; Erhan Arıklı, Minister of Public Works and Transport; and executives from the airline. Upon arrival, they made a joint statement to the press.
According to Fikri Ataoğlu, helicopters from Turkey to Northern Cyprus will offer VIP services from several regions.
In addition to Ercan Airport, helicopters may also land in a designated area in Kyrenia, as well as a special landing site in the tourist region of Bafra.
“The goal of this service is to allow visitors arriving in Kyrenia or Bafra to reach their hotels faster, after clearing customs and completing other procedures. Transportation from Ercan to Bafra or Kyrenia will be available once all necessary work is completed and legal permissions are granted,” the statement explained.
Erhan Arıklı, Minister of Public Works and Transport, added that this new service will help further diversify and streamline transportation between Turkey and Northern Cyprus.
Five helicopters will operate between Antalya, Alanya, and Northern Cyprus. In the future, flights will be available to other destinations, including Adana and Mersin.
Gökay Daşdelen, the manager of Fly Me Airlines, expressed excitement about the first commercial civilian flight, noting that they’re thrilled to offer flights to Northern Cyprus as part of their helicopter taxi and hourly cruise services, which also cover routes to Gazipaşa, Alanya, Belek, Kemer, and Bodrum.
