Middle East University is creating a world-class Arts Library

Middle East University is expanding its academic and cultural infrastructure by establishing an Arts Library. It will be located on the second floor of the former rectorate building and will become part of the new Cyprus Museum of Contemporary Art complex, which is currently under construction on the campus.
The new library is envisioned as an international center for art research. Its collections will include tens of thousands of printed publications, rare editions, artist monographs, exhibition catalogs, and digital archives. The focus will be on art history, contemporary art, museology, aesthetics, cultural heritage, design, and interdisciplinary art research.
The project aims to create a modern research environment for scholars, students, artists, and researchers, in line with international academic standards. Integrating the library with the museum space will establish a close connection between art collections and scholarly work, enhancing the university’s role as a center for cultural production and research.
Middle East University’s campus is already recognized as a unique artistic space. It houses the Cyprus Museum of Contemporary Art, the Cyprus Automobile Museum, the GÜNSEL Art Museum, the Herbarium, and the Natural History Museum. Over 250 outdoor sculptures are displayed on campus, and the university has organized a total of 479 exhibitions.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Middle East University, Professor Irfan Suat Günsel, emphasized that the creation of the Arts Library is part of the university’s holistic model, combining science, culture, and art.
According to him, the library will not only preserve and systematize accumulated cultural heritage but also transform art into a subject of deep scholarly research, discussion, and transmission to future generations. The new project will also enhance the university’s international recognition and create an inspiring educational environment for students and faculty.
