Prophet Muhammad’s Ascension Night to Be Celebrated in Northern Cyprus This Weekend
This Sunday, January 26, Northern Cyprus will celebrate the Night of Ascension of Prophet Muhammad (Miraj Kandili).
According to Islamic tradition, the Miraj is observed on the night from the 26th to the 27th of Rajab. In 2025, this night falls on January 26-27. Preparations for Miraj Night should begin on January 26, with the night itself being spent in prayer, and on January 27, Muslims are encouraged to recite the obligatory prayers.
It’s worth mentioning that earlier this month, the night of January 2-3 marked Regaip Kandili (the Night of the Conception or Enlightenment of Prophet Muhammad), which began a season of three months filled with mercy, abundance, and spiritual renewal in the Islamic world.
This important holiday marks the start of a period during which Muslims around the world will observe Rajab, Sha'ban, and Ramadan. Miraj Kandili on January 26 celebrates the night Prophet Muhammad ascended to Allah. On February 13, Muslims will commemorate Berat Kandili, a precursor to Ramadan. The holy month of Ramadan will begin on March 1.
Laylat al-Qadr will be observed on March 26, and Muslims will celebrate Eid al-Fitr on March 30.
