Driver who tied a dog to a tractor in Erenköy fined nearly 8,000 lira
A scandal broke out in the İskele district in Northern Cyprus after a video appeared on social media showing a man tying a dog to a tractor and dragging it along the road. The incident occurred on a stretch of road between the villages of Erenköy and Yeşilköy.
The footage sparked outrage among residents and drew the attention of the police. Officers from the Ziyamet Police Station, operating under the İskele Police Directorate, quickly identified the offender.
As a result, the driver was held administratively responsible and fined 7,680.30 Turkish lira. Police emphasized that the punishment was imposed in accordance with the current animal protection legislation.
The Veterinary Service also joined the investigation and is considering possible additional measures regarding the animal abuse.
The investigation is ongoing, and the incident has once again sparked public debate about the need to tighten control and penalties for such cases.
