Everything covered in mud — who will compensate the damage?: residents of Aknar Sitesi left alone with the aftermath after the rains
Heavy rains and floods that struck Northern Cyprus seriously affected the residents of the Bogaz (Dikmen) district. In the Aknar Sitesi residential complex, water flooded homes and parking lots within minutes: cars were damaged, electrical appliances failed, and entrances and courtyards were covered with a thick layer of mud. People say they went through a real nightmare — and now they do not understand who will compensate for the damage.
Neighbors say the problem is far from new. According to residents, a similar flooding occurred in 2018. At that time, they claim, they were promised a drainage system and connection to the riverbed so that water would flow away and such incidents would not happen again. However, years later, the scenario repeated itself: torrential rain, rising water, flooded apartments, and a courtyard full of mud.

Residents of Aknar Sitesi complain that after the water was pumped out, they were essentially left to deal with the consequences alone: damaged furniture, appliances, broken elements of the buildings, and a thick layer of silt require serious cleaning and repair. Many say they fear future heavy rains and demand that authorities not only help eliminate the aftermath but also finally take sustainable measures — reinforce drainage, clean up the nearby streams, and protect the area from a repeat of such a scenario.
