Traffic Accidents in Northern Cyprus Cause Over Three Million Lira in Damages in a Week
Northern Cyprus recorded 58 traffic accidents over the past week, resulting in injuries to 14 people. Once again, speeding emerged as the leading cause of these incidents. The total damage from the accidents exceeded three million Turkish lira.

According to the weekly police report, 11 accidents involved injuries, while 47 resulted in property damage.
The main causes of the accidents included:
- Speeding: 19 accidents,
- Failure to stop at intersections: 12 accidents,
- Careless driving: 10 accidents,
- Tailgating: 8 accidents,
- Other factors: 9 accidents.
The total financial cost of these accidents was estimated at 3,032,002 Turkish lira. The breakdown of accidents by region is as follows:
- Famagusta: 17 accidents,
- Nicosia: 15 accidents,
- Kyrenia: 12 accidents,
- Iskele: 10 accidents,
- Guzelyurt: 4 accidents.
During road inspections conducted over the week, police checked 16,833 drivers. Violations were identified in 2,923 cases. As a result:
- 240 vehicles were taken off the roads,
- 9 drivers were arrested.
Speeding remained the most frequently recorded traffic offense.
