Disaster and emergency preparedness drills to be held in Famagusta tomorrow

Tomorrow in Famagusta, from 10:00 to 11:30, disaster and emergency preparedness drills will be held, according to the press service of the Civil Defense Organization.

The drills will involve the permanent staff of the Civil Defense Organization and the personnel of the People's Organization (PO), appointed by the Famagusta Regional Civil Defense Directorate.

During the drills, evacuation and shelter procedures will be tested, which would be implemented in the event of a possible air attack. A regional crisis management council will be established to take the necessary precautionary measures across the country in case of an attack.

The action plan is as follows:

• A “yellow alert” will be announced using sirens and mosque loudspeakers in the Famagusta area to warn of a possible attack. After that, informative announcements will be broadcast.
• As part of the relocation to gathering areas, the People's Organization personnel on duty at collection points will be directed by the regional directorates. Citizens residing in the city center will be evacuated from their homes through Civil Defense People's Organization checkpoints and directed to designated gathering areas.
• Immediately after that, the siren system and mosque loudspeakers will issue a “red alert” warning of approaching danger. After this warning, citizens will be transported to shelters by vehicles that have been ordered to carry out transport operations.

Citizens who have completed the registration process at the regional reception and distribution centers of the “Social Assistance” public organization will be accommodated in shelters.

Afterward, the President of the Civil Defense Organization, Atilla Karaca, will address the citizens who have been evacuated to the shelters.

After receiving information from the authorized units that the danger has been eliminated, the evacuation process will begin with the broadcasting of a “white alert” from mobile vehicles, Disaster Radio, Voice of the North, Radio Vatan, and mosque loudspeakers.

Food will be distributed to citizens using a mobile kitchen, after which they will be transported back to the gathering areas by vehicles that have been ordered to carry out expedition duties.
