Heatwave in Northern Cyprus: Forestry Department declares red fire danger level
Due to the hot weather in Cyprus, the Forestry Department of Northern Cyprus has declared a “red” fire danger level. According to forecasts, on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, temperatures in the central regions of the island may reach 43°C. The sky will remain clear, and winds will blow from the south to the northwest at 3–4 Beaufort, while on the west coast they will strengthen to 4–5 Beaufort.
Along the coasts, the temperature will be around 36°C, and in the mountainous regions — about 34°C. At night, the temperature will drop to 24–25°C, with winds predominantly northwesterly at 3 Beaufort.
In this regard, the Forestry Department urges special caution. Lighting fires in forests is prohibited, and it is necessary to avoid being in the sun between 12:00 and 16:00. In case of smoke or signs of fire, report immediately to 177 (Forestry Department) or 199 (Fire Service).
The hot weather is expected to last until Thursday, August 14, with temperatures 4–7°C above normal. Authorities recommend avoiding physical exertion during the hottest hours and taking measures to prevent overheating.
