TRNC Residents Will Witness the First "Supermoon" of 2024 Today
On Monday, August 19, Cyprus will be treated to the sight of a Blue Moon. This will be the first "supermoon" of 2024.
The unusually large and bright moon will be visible after sunset by looking toward the southeast.
According to NASA, the supermoon will be observable with the naked eye for a full day before and after the exact moment of the full moon, from August 18 to August 20. During this period, the moon will be at its closest point to Earth.
This full moon is called a "supermoon" because it will appear 14% larger and 30% brighter than a typical full moon.
Furthermore, this will be the first of four consecutive "supermoons" occurring in 2024, with the next ones expected in September, October, and November.
