Authorities Advise TRNC Residents on Best Route to Airport During TEKNOFEST
Authorities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have responded to numerous complaints from residents struggling to reach Ercan Airport due to the TEKNOFEST aviation, space, and technology festival, currently taking place in Northern Cyprus from May 1 to 4.
The Department of Highways, operating under the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, issued a statement regarding traffic flow around Ercan Airport. With the festival now underway, drivers are being advised to avoid the main Nicosia–Famagusta–Ercan road, which is experiencing heavy congestion, and instead use the Aslanköy junction.
“We strongly recommend that passengers heading to the new Ercan Airport use the Aslanköy junction to avoid delays caused by heavy traffic on the main Nicosia–Famagusta–Ercan route due to TEKNOFEST,” the department said in its announcement.
This year marks the first time TEKNOFEST—the world’s largest technology and aviation festival—is being held in Northern Cyprus. The event is taking place at the site of the old Ercan Airport.
The festival officially opened yesterday, and soon after, residents began reporting serious traffic problems on the roads leading to the new airport. Many passengers were reportedly delayed or missed their flights entirely due to the gridlock.
