What Is the Penalty for Overstaying a Visa in Northern Cyprus

Updated: 3 weeks ago
Want to add your FAQ?

On Northern Cyprus, a tourist visa usually allows a stay of 30 days.

However, in some cases, the border authorities may issue a stamp for 60 days, very rarely — for 90, and sometimes even for 15.

Visa overstay fine

If you exceeded the permitted stay on Northern Cyprus, a fine will be imposed upon departure. The amount of the fine for each day of overstay is equal to one minimum DAILY wage (gross) on the day the fine is calculated.

  • As of January 2026, the fine is 2,797.75 Turkish lira for each day of overstay.

The current daily wage (gross) can be viewed here

If your tourist visa has expired, the fine must be paid directly at the airport upon departure from Northern Cyprus. If you do not have the funds to pay the fine, you can settle the debt on your next entry to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The amount is fixed in Turkish lira and no interest is charged.

How to count the days of overstay

When calculating the fine:

  • all days of overstay are counted,
  • including the day of departure.

Remember that the fine is applied separately for each family member.
