Tourist entry to Northern Cyprus is regulated by a general stay limit, and it is important to understand what durations are legally allowed and what is actually stamped at the border.

Legal durations

According to TRNC law, a tourist is allowed to stay in Northern Cyprus up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This is a general limit that applies to all foreigners entering the island.

Actual durations stamped by border officers

Previously, it was possible to request and receive a stamp for 60 days at border control.
However, the situation has changed:

  • in most cases, they now stamp 30 days,
  • even if the tourist requests a longer stay.

This has become standard practice, and the border service rarely deviates from this rule.

Where to extend a tourist visa

The tourist visa duration can be extended, given sufficient grounds, only at the central police department in Lefkoşa (Nicosia). More details are written here.

Summary

  • By law: 90 days within any 180-day period.
  • In practice at entry: usually stamped for 30 days.
  • Extension is only possible at the Lefkoşa police.
  • Maximum durations are given if there is property ownership.
