Academy Forest Park in Nicosia (Alsos Forest)
Academy Forest Park in Nicosia (Pedagogical Academy National Forest Park, or Alsos Forest) is a green area in the center of Cyprus’ capital. It is a quiet place for jogging, family walks, picnics, or simply to "escape" the city into the shade of trees. Entrance to the park is free, and it is open 24/7.

Location and How to Get There
The park stretches along Larnakos Avenue, just a few minutes’ drive from central Nicosia. Public transport: buses 41, 43, and 44 run along Aglantzias/Larnakos Avenue and to the North Entrance of the University of Cyprus. To plan your route, use the service Cyprusbybus.com.
For GPS navigation, you can enter "Larnakos Ave" or "University of Cyprus — North Entrance". Approximate coordinates: 35.1594, 33.3803. Small free parking areas are available near the entrances.
History: From Marshland to National Forest
In the early 20th century, this area was a marshy lowland with small ponds. During the British administration, eucalyptus trees were introduced here, which helped drain the soil. Gradually, the marshland transformed into a forest park.
Today, the park has the status of a national forest park and is maintained by the Department of Forests of Cyprus in cooperation with the Municipality of Aglantzia.
Nature and Ecosystem
The park is mainly composed of eucalyptus and pine trees, which create dense shade and a fragrant atmosphere. In spring, flowering shrubs and wild grasses can be seen; in summer, the park provides a refuge from the heat, and in autumn, it is especially beautiful due to the colorful foliage.

The park is home to small birds (swallows, thrushes, sparrows), as well as lizards and insects typical of Cyprus’ forest areas. Informational signs along the trails provide details about local flora and fauna, as well as the importance of preserving the urban ecosystem.
Recreation and Sports Facilities
The park features both dirt and paved walking paths suitable for leisurely strolls or morning runs. For families with children, there is a spacious playground, and for active visitors, there are sports areas with basketball and mini-football courts. Several cozy picnic spots with benches and tables are available, and one of the entrances has a small kiosk where you can buy coffee or snacks. Free parking is provided at the main entrances for visitors arriving by car, though spaces can be limited on weekends.
