Kourion Beach

Kourion Beach is a wide stretch of coastline in southern Cyprus, about a kilometer long. The shore is covered with dark sand and small pebbles, and the sea entry is gentle. This area is protected by the government and environmental services. The beach has been awarded the “Blue Flag” for water quality and tourist amenities. The sand and water here are always clean.

During peak season, it’s a popular spot for family vacations, even with children, thanks to the shallow sea entry. However, waves can reach the shore, making it suitable for windsurfing and surfing as well.

There are no bars or sports grounds, so it’s not crowded with youth. You can take a walk in the rocky surroundings or visit nearby historical sites.

Location of Kourion Beach

Kourion is on the southern coast of Cyprus, about 18 km west of Limassol, near the ancient settlement of the same name, in the Episkopi area. This territory is under British control, but no special documents are required — just a passport.

Near the beach lies the famous Kourion archaeological site, where you can explore the island’s ancient history. From the top of the Greek ruins, the entire beach can be seen.

The nearest city is Limassol, whose districts stretch almost to the boundary of the British military bases. From the airport, it takes about 55 minutes to get there.

Climate at Kourion Beach

The climate here is Mediterranean: mild winters and warm, sunny summers. The tourist season lasts from April to October, with air temperatures reaching 30 °C and water temperatures 23 °C. Rain and strong winds are rare.

The most tourists arrive in July and August. Some continue swimming until November. In December, the temperature drops to around 17 °C. January is the rainiest month. In winter, you can visit the already mentioned ancient Kourion for excursions.

Infrastructure at Kourion Beach

Entrance is free, and the beach is open all day. A road runs along the shoreline with several access points and two large parking lots.

You can rent beach umbrellas and sun loungers (from €2.5 per set), there are lifeguards, paid showers (€0.5), changing rooms, and toilets. The main facilities are a couple of family cafés with terraces and sun lounger areas. Here you can enjoy fresh fish and cold drinks.

One part of the beach is not equipped and has more stones — it’s usually visited by surfers and athletes. There is no equipment rental, so you’ll need to bring your own. The open sea is perfect for water sports, as there are often big waves. Since this is a protected zone, there are no hotels or high-rise buildings — construction is prohibited. The nearest accommodation is in Limassol, and the closest shops are about 1 km away.
