17-day-old infant hospitalized with RSV: doctors sound the alarm
A 17-day-old infant was hospitalized at Makarios Hospital with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). The child’s condition required urgent medical monitoring.
Specialists warn that RSV is particularly dangerous for newborns and infants in their first months of life. The virus can cause severe respiratory complications, including bronchiolitis and pneumonia, and often leads to hospitalization.
Doctors note an increase in RSV cases during the winter period and urge parents to be especially attentive to symptoms such as difficulty breathing, lethargy, refusal to feed, and high fever.
Premature babies and infants with weakened immune systems are at particular risk.
Doctors strongly recommend:
- avoiding contact between newborns and large numbers of people;
- strictly observing hand hygiene;
- not taking infants to enclosed and crowded places;
- seeking medical attention immediately at the first alarming symptoms.
