19-year-old driver arrested over fatal accident in Pera Oreinis
Police have arrested a 19-year-old driver in connection with a fatal road accident that occurred yesterday around 2:30 p.m. on Grigori Afxentiou Street in Pera Oreinis, Cyprus. The victim was 71-year-old Dimitris Skoufaris from Lakatamia.
According to police, the car driven by the 19-year-old hit the elderly man as he attempted to cross the road. The injured man was taken by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor confirmed his death.
The driver underwent alcohol and drug tests, both of which came back negative. He was detained under a court order to assist the investigation, questioned, and later released; he will be summoned to court.
The Nicosia Traffic Police continue to investigate the exact causes and circumstances of the incident. Residents are informed about the progress of the investigation and are urged to contact the police with any additional information.
