A 19-year-old woman was sentenced to 14 years in prison for bringing a large quantity of cocaine into Cyprus. The decision was handed down on Wednesday by the criminal court of Larnaca.
She was detained on June 25 upon arrival at Larnaca airport from abroad. Customs officers discovered 13 packets of cocaine in her luggage during inspection. The total gross weight of the seized substances was 8.76 kg.
The drugs were confiscated, and the detainee was taken into custody for questioning. The investigation was conducted by the district unit of the Cyprus Drug Enforcement Department (Ykan) in Larnaca.
According to authorities, the seizure was part of ongoing Ykan operations in cooperation with customs to prevent drugs from entering Cyprus. It was officially reported that the seized substances consisted of white powder packaged in individual wraps inside the suitcase. The large volume of the shipment made this crime one of the most significant seizures in recent months.
