US Destroyer USS Oscar Austin Returns to Cyprus
The USS Oscar Austin, a US Navy destroyer, has returned to Cyprus, this time docking in Larnaca.
The arrival of the warship was welcomed by Julie Davis Fisher, the US Ambassador to Nicosia.
"With its capabilities to carry ballistic missiles and engage in anti-submarine and surface warfare, the Oscar Austin continues its mission to enhance security in the Mediterranean and beyond," the Ambassador stated.
The ship is named after Oscar Palmer Austin, a US Marine who was posthumously awarded the highest military honor for sacrificing his life during the Vietnam War by jumping on a grenade to protect a wounded comrade.
Earlier in December, just before the New Year, the Oscar Austin also visited Limassol Port.
