Archbishop of Cyprus Georgios stated in Paphos that work on the new Statute of the Cyprus Orthodox Church is in an active phase and is expected to be completed within the next three months. He made this statement after the Divine Liturgy at the metropolitan church of Saint Theodore.

According to him, a special commission is currently working on the amendments to the Statute, which includes members of the canonical-legal commission of the Holy Synod, as well as three university professors. The volume of work is significant; however, as the Archbishop noted, the new Statute is planned to be prepared immediately after Easter.

Archbishop Georgios emphasized that the election of the new Metropolitan of Paphos is a priority task. After the new Statute is approved, the election procedure will become simpler and will not require additional preparation time.

Answering journalists’ questions, he explained that the changes concern not only the electoral process. It is a broader reform aimed at simplifying church procedures and improving the efficiency of Church management.

In conclusion, the Archbishop noted that the matter concerning the actions of Bishop Tychikos is no longer considered by the Holy Synod, which only forwards his new appeals to the relevant authorities.
