Cyprus car market reaches stabilization stage: hybrids strengthen their position, Toyota retains leadership

The car market in Cyprus shows signs of stabilization. According to the Statistical Service, in the first seven months of 2025, the number of passenger car registrations remained almost unchanged, increasing by only 0.1% — from 24,126 to 24,158 vehicles.
At the same time, the demand structure continues to shift. Used cars maintain a leading position, accounting for about 60% of all registrations. The popularity of eco-friendly solutions is becoming increasingly evident: the share of hybrids rose from 36.8% to 43.3%, while electric cars grew from 3.2% to 4.8%. Meanwhile, interest in traditional engines is declining: petrol models dropped from 49.9% to 43.3%, and diesel — from 9.9% to 8.5%.
The majority of registrations — 84.5% or 20,422 vehicles — came from private owners, confirming the steady interest of regular citizens in car purchases.
The traditional leader among brands remains unchanged. Toyota holds first place with 4,312 registrations. Second is Mazda (2,585), followed by Nissan (1,785), BMW (1,378), and Kia (1,308). Mercedes, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Honda, and Audi also made it into the top ten most popular brands.
Thus, the Cypriot car market remains relatively stable but is steadily shifting towards hybrid and electric technologies, reflecting global automotive trends.
