The project for the restoration and renewal of the historic quarter of Voroklini in Larnaca has received final approval from European funds. This was announced by representatives of the Larnaca municipality on August 26.

The works are being carried out in cooperation with the Voroklini local council. The project has been approved by the Directorate of European Funds of the Ministry of Interior and included in the Rural Development Programme 2014–2020, as well as in the strategic plan of the Common Agricultural Policy for 2023–2027. The main source of funding will be the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.

The approval of this phase paves the way for the completion of the three final sections of the redevelopment of the historic part of Voroklini. The investment is estimated at 3.5 million euros, with the majority of the funds allocated by the European Union. The project’s goal is the complete modernization and increased attractiveness of the old district for residents and visitors.

For the residents of Larnaca and neighboring communities, this means the prospect of improved urban infrastructure, expanded business opportunities in tourism, and a more comfortable urban environment. Similar projects for the restoration of historic quarters have had a positive impact on the local economy and quality of life, as confirmed by the experience of other regions of Cyprus.
