More than 0.5 kg of cocaine seized from 23-year-old passenger at Larnaca Airport
Police and the Customs Service yesterday detained a 23-year-old woman in the arrivals area of Larnaca Airport in Cyprus on suspicion of drug smuggling; more than half a kilogram of cocaine was seized from her.
During the inspection, nine oval-shaped nylon packages containing a total of 88 grams of cocaine were found hidden in her bra, and another package weighing 452 grams was discovered in her underwear. The total amount seized was 540 grams, and this figure may increase, as X-ray scans revealed additional internal packages inside her body.
The woman was arrested on charges related to drug trafficking, then taken to hospital for radiological examination. She remains under medical supervision and is receiving treatment to extract the remaining packages.
The drug seizure operation was carried out as part of joint efforts by the Police and the Customs Service to prevent drug smuggling through airports in Cyprus. The Cyprus Anti-Narcotics Unit (IKAN) continues further inspections and investigation.
