Cyprus hospitals overwhelmed due to flu and infections
Medical institutions in Cyprus are facing serious strain amid a seasonal rise in flu and viral infections. A number of public hospitals are reporting high occupancy rates, primarily in internal medicine wards and emergency departments.
According to health system data, the number of emergency service visits has increased noticeably in recent weeks. Doctors note that most patients are admitted with complications following influenza and other respiratory infections, especially among the elderly and people in high-risk groups.
Despite the rise in morbidity, flu vaccination rates remain lower than expected. Authorities and healthcare professionals are once again urging residents not to delay vaccination and to seek medical attention at the first symptoms to avoid complications and additional pressure on hospitals.
