Lack of beds for cancer patients
The Hematology Department in Limassol is overcrowded and is not admitting new patients.
The Limassol Patient Rights Association is sounding the alarm: leukemia patients in need of chemotherapy are facing a shortage of space in the oncology department.
The Hematology Department in Limassol has 14 beds, located in double and single rooms. Typically, this number of beds is sufficient. However, there has recently been a need to treat specific patients who, according to the medical services protocol, require separately equipped rooms. To meet this requirement, double rooms have been converted into single rooms, leading to a shortage of beds for new patients.
The medical institution's management is trying to address the issue. Some beds have been borrowed from neighboring departments, but everyone agrees that this measure is temporary.
Haralambos Papadopoulos, Chairman of the OSAK Patient Federation, has demanded an urgent solution to the problem.
"We cannot allow leukemia patients to wait for the start of treatment. We know that doctors have not been inactive. But we emphasize that this problem must be resolved without further delays," he said.
