Cyprus Forestry Department to Hire 108 Additional Employees
The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus has approved the immediate hiring of 108 contract workers for the country's Forestry Department. The new personnel will address the shortage of firefighters and specialized equipment operators.
According to Minister of Agriculture Maria Panayiotou, the Cabinet has also decided to implement a series of financial incentive measures to enhance prevention efforts in areas adjacent to forests.
These measures include a pilot program for controlled grazing, cultivation of abandoned fields, pruning of wild vegetation, and full funding for communities living near forested areas to acquire branch shredders.
The measures will take effect this month.
