On January 26, 2026, the Department of Water Development reported that over the past three days approximately 2.4 million cubic meters of water flowed into reservoirs, of which 1.2 million cubic meters went to reservoirs in the Paphos district. The information was provided to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) by department official Gianna Oikonomidou.

As of January 26, total water reserves in the reservoirs amount to 34 million cubic meters, corresponding to a fill level of 11.8% out of a total capacity of 335 million cubic meters. For comparison, on the same day last year the fill level was 26.1%. Earlier, the department’s technical engineer Marios Hadjicostis noted that the contribution of recent rainfall was about 400,000 cubic meters, with the fill level then estimated at 11%.

The department emphasized that longer and more intense rainfall is required to emerge from the drought period. Authorities continue to implement projects to increase dam capacity and develop water supply and irrigation systems, with a total cost exceeding 200 million euros.

Senior official of the Department of Fisheries Vasilis Papadopoulos highlighted the benefits of rainwater runoff for marine ecosystems and the coastline. Residents are advised to continue conserving water and, where possible, use rainwater for irrigation, including within programs for agricultural producers.
