Voluntary military service for women in Cyprus: only one application submitted

Although the opportunity for women to voluntarily enlist in the military has recently opened in Cyprus, interest has been extremely low — only one application has been submitted since the program began.
Applications can be submitted until October 24 through the Ministry of Defense’s electronic form. Mobilization for those accepted will take place on October 30 and 31 at the military center in Limassol (KEN).
According to the ministry, women have been actively calling and asking about the conditions, particularly the possibility of serving in the region where they live. To address this, it was decided to utilize military bases in all districts to take into account the preferences of potential recruits.
To stimulate interest, the authorities promise a number of benefits for volunteers: counting the service period toward the social insurance system, priority in recruitment for government positions, and additional points when applying to universities.
The ministry emphasizes that the entire application and conscription process will be fully transparent and strictly regulated.
