Brawl in Trachoni: several people injured, suspects detained
On the morning of April 9, a serious conflict escalated into a mass brawl in the Trachoni area within the British Sovereign Base Areas. As a result of the clash, three people were taken to the hospital, and two suspects were detained. Police are considering various theories regarding the incident, including a possible racist motive.
According to media reports, the conflict began over disagreements between teenagers of Greek Cypriot and Syrian origin. Presumably, the tension arose at a school attended by the minors, but the dispute could not be resolved.
The teenagers agreed to meet near a church in Trachoni, but the parents of both parties also arrived at the scene. Instead of calming the situation, the conversation escalated into a new conflict — this time between adults. A fight ensued, resulting in injuries and damage to vehicles.
The injured were taken to Limassol General Hospital. One of them was diagnosed with a serious jaw injury and may require surgery.
The investigation is being conducted by the police of the British Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, as the Trachoni area falls under their jurisdiction. Law enforcement officers have already detained two people and do not rule out more arrests as additional warrants have been issued in the case.
