Two suspects in the Demosthenous murder case to appear in court in Limassol in January
Two 28-year-old suspects arrested in connection with the murder of businessman Stavros Demosthenous will appear before the Limassol District Court in January, the court ruled on Friday.
The suspects appeared at the Limassol court under heightened security and wearing bulletproof vests. They were arrested in Thessaloniki at the end of October on a European arrest warrant and will remain in custody until the start of the trial.
The two will join four more suspects charged in connection with the murder, whose hearing is scheduled at the Limassol District Court for January 29. The role of the arrested individuals in the crime has not yet been established.
According to investigators, Demosthenous was shot on October 17 while in a car next to his 18-year-old son in the Ayios Athanasios area of Limassol. Preliminary information suggests that the fatal shots were likely fired from a van that was traveling directly in front of the victim’s car; that vehicle was later set on fire. An abandoned motorcycle was also found, which investigators believe may have been used in the commission of the crime.
As of November 7, at least eight people had been arrested in connection with the case, some of whom were later released due to lack of evidence.
