On March 16, 2026, the Cyprus Greens – Citizens' Cooperation movement reported three separate cases of cats being shot in the Larnaca and Paphos districts of Cyprus.

In Larnaca, according to the movement, a cat was wounded by an air weapon in a residential area. Activists noted that the use of firearms or air weapons near homes poses a danger to public safety.

Two cases were registered in the Paphos district. In one incident, which occurred on February 16, 2026, an animal was found paralyzed; an X-ray confirmed the presence of a bullet, and the cat was subsequently euthanized. In another case, a cat was found with multiple pellets in its body.

The movement stated that its animal welfare team is frequently involved in such complaints, indicating the repetitive nature of the phenomenon. The organization criticized the initial police response in Paphos as insufficient and welcomed the subsequent invitation of the complainants to the Central Paphos Police Station to give statements.

The movement called for a thorough investigation using all available scientific data and the full application of existing animal welfare legislation and sanctions, warning that impunity encourages further acts of violence.
