The first exit poll results from the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Cyprus showed a sharp competition between the island’s largest political forces — the DISY and AKEL parties. The data were published by television channels immediately after the polling stations closed at 18:00.

According to preliminary estimates, both parties are running almost neck and neck, making the outcome of the election one of the most unpredictable in recent years. At the same time, analysts note a noticeable strengthening of the position of the ELAM party, which, according to exit polls, is significantly increasing its support among voters.

Particular attention is being drawn to the situation involving smaller parties. Different television channels have reported significant discrepancies in forecasts regarding the results of the movements «ALMA», «Amesi Dimokratia» and «Volt». According to preliminary data, all three political forces are close to the parliamentary threshold, and the final result will depend on the counting of all votes.

Political observers note that the current elections could lead to a more fragmented parliament and make it harder to form stable political alliances in the southern administration of Cyprus.

Official election results are expected late in the evening after the ballot count is completed.
