Electricity Prices to Rise Again — Despite President’s Appeal
The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) has announced yet another hike in electricity prices.
This comes despite a personal request from President Nikos Christodoulides, who urged Energy Minister Giorgos Papanastasiou not to approve the increase. However, authorities say the surcharge is unavoidable due to current circumstances.
While the original plan was to raise tariffs by 9%, the actual increase is expected to be closer to 7%.
Minister Papanastasiou clarified that the president’s role in such matters is purely advisory and does not carry binding authority.
