Europe Stands Up for Cyprus: Results of the Tenth Day of the War in Iran
The tenth day of the war surrounding Iran was marked by a sharp escalation in the Middle East and an expansion of the conflict's geography. Against the backdrop of exchanges of strikes between the US, Israel, and Iran, European countries have begun to demonstrate direct military support for their allies. Particularly notable was the position of France, which promptly expressed solidarity with Cyprus following drone and missile attacks on the island.
European Support for Cyprus
French President Emmanuel Macron announced immediate support measures for Cyprus during a visit to the "Andreas Papandreou" airbase in Paphos. A trilateral meeting was held there with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
According to Macron, the security of European countries is directly linked to the situation in the region. France has already dispatched the frigate "Languedoc" and a "Mistral" air defense unit to the area. Furthermore, a French carrier strike group led by the aircraft carrier "Charles de Gaulle" is located near the island, which the French President intends to visit to assess the operational situation.
Strikes on Iran and Retaliatory Attacks
Military actions between the US, Israel, and Iran continue to intensify. American and Israeli forces struck targets in central Iran several times in a short period. Simultaneously, the US Navy attacked three Iranian vessels in the Persian Gulf — two off the coast of Bandar Lengeh and one near Bandar Kong.
Tehran responded with a series of missile attacks on Israeli territory. According to confirmed data, ballistic missiles, including munitions with cluster payloads, resulted in the deaths of at least two people and injuries to several civilians.
Additionally, Iranian forces claimed to have destroyed the SES satellite communication station in Beit Shemesh. Meanwhile, in southern Lebanon, clashes occurred between Hezbollah and the Israeli army: reports indicate at least two Israeli "Merkava" tanks were hit. The Israeli side also confirmed the death of one soldier.
Attacks on American Facilities and Regional Strikes
New episodes of the conflict affected other countries in the region. A drone attacked an American base near Erbil Airport in Iraqi Kurdistan. In parallel, drones struck the headquarters of the Kurdish organization PJAK in Erbil.
Iran also attacked the BAPCO oil refinery in Bahrain, after which the company declared force majeure. Another Iranian drone hit a high-rise building in Manama — according to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, 13 Americans were wounded, while Bahraini authorities confirmed one death.
Amid the threat of new attacks, the US began evacuating part of its personnel from the consulate in Adana, Turkey.
Ukraine, Kurds, and Diplomatic Signals
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Kyiv sent drone specialists and interception systems to Jordan to protect American bases from Iranian kamikaze drones.
Meanwhile, Syrian Kurds warned Iranian Kurds against an alliance with the US, citing their own experience of cooperation with Washington, which ended in a sharp reduction in support.
Hard rhetoric from the parties added further tension. Iranian military officials stated that they, not the US, would determine the end of the war. In response, US President Donald Trump stated that the conflict could develop further, calling Tehran's actions a "big mistake."
Economic Consequences
The expansion of the conflict is already impacting the global energy market. The Saudi company Saudi Aramco has begun cutting oil production at two fields. Capital Economics analysts warn: in a worst-case scenario, the price of Brent crude could reach $150 per barrel by mid-2026.
Some European governments are already preparing for the fallout. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced the introduction of fuel price caps amidst the intensifying oil crisis.
An Alarming Milestone
The tenth day of the war shows that the conflict is gradually moving beyond the confrontation between Iran and its opponents, involving new countries and regions. The increased military presence of European states off the coast of the Eastern Mediterranean and strikes on facilities in several Middle Eastern countries indicate that the crisis is approaching a new, larger-scale phase.
