Eurobarometer Reveals Cypriots' Top Concerns
Recent data from the Eurobarometer survey has been released, highlighting the main issues that Cypriots believe the European Union faces. According to Cypriot respondents, the top concerns are illegal immigration, the cost of living, terrorism, and security issues.
The data reveals that Cypriots most frequently cited illegal immigration (64% compared to 41% in the EU), the cost of living (48% compared to 32%), terrorism, and security issues (35% compared to 29%). Other notable concerns include the situation in Ukraine (28% compared to 50%) and environmental issues and climate change.
When it comes to priority areas for EU action, Cypriot respondents most often mentioned illegal immigration, security and defense, environmental issues and climate change, and the situation in Ukraine.
The online survey was conducted from June 25 to July 2, 2024, across 27 EU member states, with a total of 25,658 EU citizens participating, including 506 from Cyprus.
According to the data, the majority of EU citizens highlight the situation in Ukraine, migration, and climate change as their primary concerns.
Additionally, 73% of Cypriots (compared to 64% in the EU) expressed concerns about the EU's security over the next five years, with 21% being very concerned and 52% somewhat concerned in Cyprus, compared to 17% very concerned and 47% somewhat concerned in the EU.
