Eurostat: 14.6% of Greek Cypriots cannot adequately heat their homes
According to the European Statistical Agency (Eurostat) for 2024, around 14.6% of Greek Cypriots reported that they cannot adequately heat their homes, the newspaper Haravgi reported on February 3, 2026.
Eurostat included data from Southern Cyprus in the overall list of European Union countries where a significant portion of the population experiences heating difficulties. Among the EU countries with the most pronounced problem, the agency cited Greece and Bulgaria.
The publication noted that the indicated figure reflects the self-assessment of respondents in 2024 and is compared with similar data from other EU countries. The article did not provide specific information on the number of respondents in Cyprus or the calculation methodology.
For residents of Cyprus, this statistic indicates the presence of social and energy vulnerability for part of the population during the winter period. Official authorities and local media publish Eurostat data as a basis for discussing social assistance and energy efficiency issues in the region.
