Cyprus Football Association suspends all Karmiotissa matches after club president’s murder
The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) has suspended all matches of Karmiotissa FC until Sunday following the murder of the club’s president, Stavros Demosthenous, which took place this morning in Limassol.
The Association announced that all men’s, youth, and children’s team matches scheduled from today until Sunday have been postponed, according to an official statement.
The CFA president, board members, general director, and staff expressed their sincere condolences to Karmiotissa and to the family of the deceased.
According to reports, Demosthenous was shot dead in Limassol when armed assailants opened fire on his car near his home in Sfalangiotissa. His son attempted to drive him to the hospital but crashed on the highway; Demosthenous succumbed to his injuries.
A few months ago, Demosthenous’s name had been mentioned in discussions regarding the presidency of the Cyprus Football Association after the resignation of Giorgos Koumas, but he did not run for the position.
