76 Beaches and Two Marinas Awarded "Blue Flag" in Cyprus: List of Best Swimming Spots
Cyprus recently hosted the ceremony for the 2024 "Blue Flag" awards. This year, 76 beaches and two marinas, Limassol Marina and Ayia Napa Marina, were honored with this international quality mark.
According to tourism director Anita Dimitriadou, this year marks an important milestone for the establishment of the "Blue Flag" in Cyprus, celebrating 30 years of successful implementation on the island.
Cyprus applied to join the program in 1994 in Huelva, Spain.
This year, Cyprus has one location fewer awarded the prestigious quality standard compared to last year. In summer 2023, the "Blue Flag" was awarded to 77 beaches and two marinas. In total, the island boasts 123 beaches.
The record holder for the highest number of "Blue Flags" is the municipality of Paralimni, where 18 beaches were awarded the quality mark.

The "Blue Flag" is an internationally recognized environmental standard that promotes the popularization and sustainable management of beaches.
To be awarded the "Blue Flag" status, a coast must meet excellent bathing water quality standards, as well as comply with 33 criteria for beaches and 38 criteria for marinas. These include swimmer safety, visitor awareness, cleanliness and organization of the beach and coastal area, protection of natural resources, and environmental awareness.
In 2023, Cyprus became the country with the highest percentage of excellent quality bathing water. This indicator reached 97.6% on the island. 120 out of 123 bathing water points are characterized by excellent quality.
