Congolese Woman Arrested Attempting to Fly Out of Paphos Using Fake French Passport
A 27-year-old woman of African descent was arrested at Paphos Airport for attempting to leave the island using a fake French identity document.
According to Michalis Nicolaou, Assistant Police Director of Paphos, the incident occurred on Wednesday around 4:00 AM. The woman presented herself at the departure area of Paphos Airport, claiming she intended to travel to France and showed a French ID card.
A police officer on duty noticed that although the French ID appeared genuine, the person in the photograph did not match the woman presenting it.
During interrogation, the woman admitted that the document belonged to someone else and revealed that she is an asylum seeker from Congo. She was subsequently arrested for impersonation. A court hearing for the detained woman has been scheduled for October 11, and she will remain in custody until then.
