Cyprus Fire Service Responds to 43 Incidents Due to Severe Weather
The Cyprus Fire Service responded to 43 incidents caused by severe weather affecting various parts of the island by 17:30.
Most calls involved fallen trees, objects displaced by strong winds, water pumping, towing stranded vehicles, and sparking electrical cables.
Nicosia
In the Nicosia district, fire stations in Pallouriotissa, Strovolos, and Deftera responded to 8 incidents by 08:20, primarily involving fallen trees, car towing, and sparking cables.
Famagusta
In the Famagusta region, 4 incidents were recorded by 08:25, mainly related to fallen trees and objects blown away by the wind.
Additionally:
- The Paralimni–Deryneia municipality handled 14 incidents,
- The Ayia Napa municipality handled 2 cases,
- EAC (Electricity Authority of Cyprus) teams resolved 5 cases of sparking wires.
Paphos
In Paphos, fire stations in Polemi, Polis Chrysochous, and Stroumbi handled 3 incidents, including water pumping, a fallen tree, and electrical panel issues.
Larnaca
Larnaca recorded the highest number of calls at 18. Most cases involved fallen trees and objects torn away by the wind, including water tanks, road signs, and kiosks, as well as sparking cables.
Limassol
In Limassol, city fire stations along with those in Polemidia, Agios Athanasios, and Ypsonas responded to 9 incidents, mostly fallen trees, displaced construction structures, and sparking wires.
Separate Incident
The EMAK rescue unit in Kofinou was also called to one case where a tree fell onto a car.
Emergency services remain on high alert and urge residents to be especially cautious due to strong winds and unstable weather conditions.
