On December 24, 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers approved financial assistance of up to €636,899 to local authorities to continue and strengthen municipal waste separation programs in Cyprus.

According to the decision, this support aligns with the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment's policy to promote a circular economy, reduce landfill waste, and strengthen recycling and home composting within the framework of European and national environmental legislation.

The funding is intended for organizations already implementing relevant programs and covers expenses for separating recyclable and organic waste, managing green waste and trimmings, and implementing or strengthening the "Pay-as-you-throw" system. Specific allocations include: €250,000 to Aglantzia municipality for the implementation of the "Pay-as-you-throw" system, €265,609 to Aradippou municipality for an organic waste separation program, €30,000 each to Polis-Chrysochous municipality and the union of Tamas district communities, and €61,290 to the community councils of Agia Marina Chrysochous and nine regional communities.

Funds will be provided directly to local authorities upon submission of the necessary documentation in accordance with current legislation and relevant regulations. The aim of the measures is to support local authorities investing in proper waste management and to encourage residents to adopt the habit of separating and recycling waste.
