Christodoulides: Economic Growth Enabled Increase in Social Spending
President Nikos Christodoulides stated that the country's positive economic performance has allowed the government to increase the volume of social spending.
The statement was made during a meeting at the Presidential Palace with representatives of the Cyprus Confederation of Organizations for the Disabled (KYSOA), the Cyprus Federation of Patients' Associations (OSAK), and the Third Age Observatory.
The head of state emphasized that the government views these organizations as partners in efforts to improve the daily lives of vulnerable groups. According to him, the measures already taken and those planned are the result of constant consultations with relevant organizations and reflect their priorities.
The President noted that social spending was increased in 2024 and 2025, with the 2026 budget providing for an additional growth of over 6%. He added that the fiscal capacity for this was secured by ongoing economic growth, which reached 4.5% in the final quarter of 2025.
Christodoulides stressed that the state has a duty to respond to the needs of its citizens and invited the organizations to submit proposals for further support measures.
