Cyprus, Greece, and the UAE have signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in laying an electrical cable as part of the "Eurasia Interconnector" project
The cooperation document was signed on the sidelines of the 28th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference, held in Dubai, between representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Cyprus, the operator company of the Greek national power grid ADMIE, and the National Energy Company TAQA from the UAE.
The "Eurasia Interconnector" project involves laying an underwater power cable between Greece, Cyprus, and Israel.
Under the agreement, the parties intend to explore the possibility of their participation in the equity capital of the new company "Great Sea Interconnector," which could take on the main functions for the implementation of the entire project to create the power grid.
The parties have also agreed to establish a committee that will meet twice a month.
It is worth noting that in March 2021, Cyprus, Greece, and Israel signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the "Eurasia Interconnector" project.
The project involves laying three cable segments: Israel - Cyprus (310 km), Cyprus - the Greek island of Crete (about 900 km), and Crete - the mainland of Greece (310 km).
