Cyprus is taking a significant step into the field of artificial intelligence by joining Greece’s Pharos initiative and gaining access to advanced computing resources. The project was approved under the AI Factory Antennas programme in late 2025 and предусматривает the creation of AI infrastructure in Cyprus alongside the digital transformation of public and private services.

As part of the cooperation, Cyprus will be connected to Greece’s Daedalus supercomputer, providing the high-performance computing power required for AI development. In parallel, a smaller supercomputer is planned to be built in Cyprus in collaboration with NVIDIA, further strengthening the country’s technological capabilities.

The Cyprus–Greece partnership focuses on the development of large language models (LLMs) for the Greek language, with applications in key sectors such as healthcare, clean energy, sustainability and digital services. The initiative aims to address the linguistic and technological needs of Greek-speaking regions while enhancing AI capacity across southeastern Europe.

The cooperation includes:

  • educational and training programmes to support the creation of a unified Greek-language AI ecosystem;
  • the development of language models and digital tools adapted to the Greek language;
  • the creation of a shared data repository and interoperable AI applications.

By providing researchers and engineers with access to advanced computing infrastructure, the partnership supports the development of smart solutions in healthcare, language technologies, environmental sustainability and cultural heritage.

Through this collaboration and its connection to Greece’s high-performance computing systems, Cyprus officially joins the European artificial intelligence landscape, marking a key step in its strategy to position itself as a regional technology hub.
