Cyprus undergoes another assessment on its path to Schengen
Today and tomorrow, a delegation of approximately 25 European experts is operating in Cyprus — representatives from Europol, Frontex, and several EU countries. Their task is to evaluate how prepared the Republic of Cyprus is for accession to the Schengen Area.

The mission’s main focus is on security and migration policy, especially in light of the increasing number of illegal border crossings.
The Europeans are also reviewing how human rights and personal data protection are ensured in Cyprus. The delegation has already visited the offices of the Data Protection Commissioner and the Human Rights Commissioner to assess transparency levels and compliance with EU standards.
After the assessment is completed, Nicosia will await the official report from the European Commission — another step on the path to full Schengen membership.
