Cypriot students have created an app for adapting to left-hand traffic for foreigners
Students from the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) have developed an application that will help foreign drivers adapt to left-hand traffic in Cyprus. The Cy-Driver simulator includes gaming elements and will help tourists get used to the traffic even before arriving on the island.
The students developed the application in collaboration with the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. The project authors conducted market research and user surveys, interviewing car rental companies and the police to gather information on road traffic incidents, especially involving tourists.
According to the survey, the most frequently expressed fear by potential drivers and app users was fear of roundabouts.
According to Ekaterina Mavri, the project's director of education, the aim of the application is to increase the confidence and skills of tourists accustomed to right-hand traffic in their home countries, thereby reducing the likelihood that they will reject Cyprus as a holiday or travel destination.
In addition, the project includes discount coupons for services offered by local tourism companies and car rental firms. They will also be available in the app.
