75-Year-Old Man Suspected of Smuggling Hay from the North Amid Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreak
In the Republic of Cyprus, a 75-year-old man has come under suspicion for the illegal transport of hay from the north of the island amid a foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak.
According to authorities, the hay may have been imported in violation of current restrictions introduced to prevent the spread of the disease among farm animals. An investigation is currently underway.
As a reminder, under the conditions of an FMD outbreak, control over the movement of fodder, animals, and agricultural products has been tightened, and violation of the rules can lead to serious sanctions.
